My name is Russ Babidge and I started Southbay Design 2008 after 15 years as a Creative Director in a large agency to do great creative work at sensible cost but to the highest possible standards, oh and along the way I have picked up a few great creative friends that really are part of Southbay Design.

My father John Babidge started in the business in the mid 1940's covering over 70 years in graphic design

My father John Babidge started work in the mid 1940's learning his trade as a hand lettering artist and eventually becoming an airbrush retouch craftsman. Cow Gum, a scalpel and a bottle of Ronsonol lighter fluid were the tools of the commercial artist.
Watching my at father work, I knew by 12 that's all I ever wanted to do, seeing him hand draw lettering and explain how to kern and master the art of typography, it is so different in today’s digital auto place world, yet I can still feel his influence 40 years on, and graphic excellence is still down to a good eye.
